The City of Akron will be closing main downtown thoroughfares for the entire day Saturday as the Slide the City event takes over the area.
According to the Akron Police Department, segments of South Main Street, University Avenue, South High Street, South Broadway Street and East State Street will be closed or restricted for the block party style event.

The Slide the City event brings a world record 1,000 foot long waterslide to city streets. The event's website says there will be live music, food and drinks.
The road closures will be in effect from about 3 a.m. Saturday morning until midnight.
