GREEN, Ohio — The Green Local School District is changing their policy on school lunches after a 9-year-old boy got his hot lunch taken away in place of a cold lunch on his birthday.

Jefferson Sharpnack's grandmother said the boy's food was taken off of his plate on his birthday in front of the entire lunchroom after $9 was owed to pay for lunch.

The district has decided that students will receive the standard lunch for the day, regardless of their balance account.

A spokesperson for the school said anyone who wants to donate to the kids to make sure they don't have a negative balance on their lunch cards can mail a check to Green Local Schools and write 'FSS account in the memo line.'
