Historic Barberton trees planted by the town's founder were chopped down earlier this week and the Barberton Historical Society wants answers.
According to the historical society's Facebook page, the 10 trees were cut down between 8 a.m. and noon Tuesday on the O.C. Barber Wishing Well property on Mansion Drive.
The Black Walnut trees, which stood 50 feet tall, were cut into 12-foot sections. Members of the historical society believes they were but that way so the vandals could come back later and steal them.
The police report states that one suspect was described as an older white man with a white beard.
Barberton police are investigating.
