A man was arrested and charged after he allegedly kidnapped a woman and assaulted her friend, police reported.
On March 29 at about 9 p.m., police received an incomplete 911 call. Police said the dispatcher heard someone screaming that they were being attacked. The caller then hung up.
A second call came in from a concerned citizen, police said. Officers then responded to the Gaylord Drive area and found John Crawford, 25, screaming and incoherent.
Police said Crawford was secured at the scene before they continued to investigate. Officers received information that a 24-year-old woman and her 30-year-old companion were at the Stow Police Department to make a kidnapping report on her and an assault report for him. The victims were taken to Munroe Falls police station and interviewed.
The investigation revealed that the victim drove to meet Crawford, and shortly after she arrived he began making threats and kidnapped her. Crawford allegedly forced her to drive to several locations in an attempt to get cash. At one point, Crawford was confronted by the victim's friend, and the friend was assaulted by Crawford.
Crawford is currently in the Summit County Jail charged with kidnapping, assault, and unlawful restraint. He is awaiting further court proceedings.
The investigation is ongoing.
