Northeast Ohio trying to woo Amazon

AKRON, Ohio -

Amazon knows exactly what it is looking for in a city to house its second headquarters.

The retail giant is looking for a prime location somewhere in North America with a metropolitan area that has a population of a million or more, a place with strong tech talent and a region that thinks big and creatively when it comes to real estate.

That's just some of the criteria Amazon has in its eight page request for proposal. It's news that has cities trying to woo the company to their city, including Akron. "I think it is a great area. In fact, I think it's the best area for them to consider," said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan.

But the mayor stressed that the proposal to Amazon would be a regional plan.

The five billion dollar facility could generate 50,000 good paying jobs. "We think it would be great if they came to the city of Akron. But, we know wherever they go, it will make a tremendous impact. A splash for any region," added Horrigan. Akron is already home to several corporate headquarters. Horrigan said the team expects to have their plan complete by the end of the month.

Amazon recently announced a fulfillment center will soon be housed in the old Randall Park Mall.
