A 74-year-old man is dead after a crash along Interstate 77 in Coventry Township early Wednesday morning.
The crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. when the SUV went off the right side of the interstate and struck the bottom of the Swartz Road overpass.
The impact tore nearly the entire passenger side off the SUV.
One passenger, a 74-year-old man from Elyria, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and two other passengers were transported to Akron area hospitals for treatment. The driver and one passenger are listed in critical condition. The other passenger was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say speed and alcohol use do not appear to be factors.
