The Summit County Sheriff's Office received several calls Saturday morning about a naked man running down a road in Coventry Township.

Police say the man was in possession of methamphetamine and had tried to break into a home in the area.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded just after 8 a.m. and found the man — identified as 32-year-old Grant Rudd — holding a bloody knife and box cutter.

Authorities said he had attempted to gain entry to a home by pounding on the door and windows.

Rudd was transported to Akron City Hospital by the Coventry Fire Department for treatment.

While at the hospital, officials say the man became combative and assaulted the medical staff.

He was charged with attempted aggravated burglary and possession of drugs. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
