A Summit County Metro Parks ranger who had previously been put on administrative leave after an altercation with an elderly couple has been fired, according to parks spokesperson Lisa King.
The incident occurred back in September when the couple honked at Ranger Jeffrey Axner as they drove past him at the entrance of Goodyear Heights Metro Park in Akron.
The couple told News 5 they were followed back to their home by Axner and then handcuffed and physically assaulted.
"Mr. Axner violated park ranger procedures, exceeded his authority resulting in a series of poor decisions, and used excessive force," King said. "These are unacceptable violations of our employee conduct standards, and in keeping with district police and our contract with the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, Mr. Axner's employment with Summit Metro Parks was terminated."
