University of Akron police issue alert after receiving attempted abduction report involving student

The University of Akron Police Department was notified of a reported attempted abduction involving a student early Friday morning.

The victim was approached by two vehicles around 2:15 a.m. near Brown Street and Wheeler Street south of campus, according to police.

The first vehicle was described as a black BMW with a customized exhaust, a visible blue light in the rear of the car and possible black rims. The second car was described as a black Chevy Impala with black tinted windows, police said.

The student went on Twitter and described the attempted abduction.

The student said the men tried to get her to enter their vehicles as she was walking home. When she refused, they became confrontational and began following her.

The student said she ran and hid in a backyard until it was safe for her to run home. She saw the men outside of their vehicles looking for her but made it home safely. The incident was reported to police the later that morning, according to the student.

The Akron Police Department is currently investigating this incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident should call University police detectives at 330-972-2911.
