Police have released the dash cam video from a weekend incident in which they said an accused shoplifter struck an officer with a car and the officer fired a shot.

An officer at a grocery store was alerted that a woman was trying to steal a cart of groceries Saturday at 7:30 p.m., police said.

The officer, who has worked as an officer for 10 years, confronted the woman, identified as Yolanda T. Debruce, 47, of Akron. DeBruce struck the officer with her car as she tried to escape, and the officer fired one round, striking the driver's side door but not DeBruce, police said.

Other responding officers chased DeBruce into Akron and arrested her.

The officer was treated and released at an area hospital. DeBruce was put in Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and other charges.

On Monday, DeBruce was arraigned in Stow Municipal Court. She was charged with felonious assault, fail to comply with police, and resisting arrest. She was given a $750,000 bond.

DeBruce's next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m.
