Ohioans filed 28,790 initial jobless claims last week

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The number of Ohioans who filed initial jobless claims last week was fewer than the number of those who filed initial jobless claims the week before, which was 31,134, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

In a New Year’s Eve report, the department reported 28,790 initial jobless claims for the week of Dec. 20 through Dec. 26, which was 245, 425 fewer than the peak earlier this year.

During the same week, Ohioans filed 265,485 continued jobless claims.

Over the last 41 weeks, Ohioans filed 2,069,145 initial jobless claims, which is more than the combined total of those filed during the last five years.
