UPDATE: The 12-year-old girl has been found safe.
Earlier police were searching for a 12-year-old girl they say was abducted from a Washington-area airport.
The Virginia State Police said in a statement that the girl was last seen leaving Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport with an unknown woman Thursday. Police issued an Amber Alert warning that the girl was “believed to be in extreme danger.”
Authorities said the girl was visiting from China as part of a tour group that was sightseeing and looking at schools in the United States, according to The Washington Post.
At the airport, the child said she needed to use the restroom. She met another unknown middle-aged Asian woman. Police said she exited the restroom wearing different clothes and walked with the unknown woman toward the arrivals at the airport.
