The new National Suicide Hotline number beginning in July 2022 will be 988.
The Federal Communications Commission says the dialing code will be available nationwide to connect to 1-800-273-TALK through a phone call, text, or chat.

In July 2020, the vote was passed unanimously, CNN reported.
The current number is 1-800-273-8255 and it will still work after the new number goes into effect.
The new number will go into effect on July 16, 2022.
The new number will not come with a texting option, but the FCC will look into that capability if it becomes available.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is also available through online chats.
