AIt isn't clear how many, but some illegal immigrants who were reservists and recruits for the U.S. Army have been discharged, the Associated Press reports.

Those folks were promised paths to citizenship, and the discharges are happening abruptly, the AP says.

There isn't an exact number of how many who enlisted in special recruitment have been released.

The U.S. government has instructions on its website for becoming naturalized if serving in the armed forces.

"If you served honorably in the U.S. armed forces for at least one year during a period of peacetime, you may be eligible to apply for naturalization," the website states.

An attorney who helped create the immigration recruitment program for the armed forces told the AP she has been inundated with phone calls from those unexpectedly discharged, seeking her help.

The immigrants had signed enlistment contracts and taken military oaths, Margaret Stock said of those calling.
