PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say an officer shot several times near Philadelphia got a call from country singer Kenny Chesney with an apology for saying he was dead.
Chesney gave a shoutout to Officer Christopher Dorman at Saturday's concert in south Philadelphia but mistakenly said he had died.
Folcroft police tweeted Sunday that Chesney "just called ... to apologize and wish him the best" and said "he wants to take him to a football game and get some beers."
WPVI-TV reports that Chesney said in a statement that he got "caught up in the moment" and "the emotions got the best of me."
Dorman was supposed to attend the concert but was shot Friday in the face, leg and groin. A man is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
