One dead, two injured in Friday night shooting in Akron

Two people were injured and one person was killed in a shooting on Akron's East Side on Friday night, according to police.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. in the 300 block of The Brooklands. Authorities said the victims were in a car when the shooting occurred.

The 21-year-old driver was pronounced dead on scene, police said. The victim was transported to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office. Authorities have not released the man's identity.

A 21-year-old rear passenger was found near the intersection of Newton Street and The Brooklands Avenue with a gunshot wound to his arm, according to police. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A third victim, a 28-year-old man, was found near the car with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was taken to nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

The car everyone was in was in a parking lot in the 300 block of The Brooklands. The driver tried to drive off when shots were fired, but it struck a tree after exiting the parking lot, authorities said.

According to police, two gallon-size bags of marijuana were found in the car.  Authorities said there was another passenger in the car but the person has not been found.

Authorities didn't release any suspect information. The shooting remains under investigation.
