CLEVELAND — The American Legion is working with Coast Guard assistance to offer grants to active Coast Guard service members with minor children through the legion's Temporary Financial Assistance Program (TFA).

The grants help minor children at home of active-duty service members or current American Legion members with assistance to cover costs of shelter, food, utilities, clothing and health expenses.

TFA is providing one-time grants of up to $1,500 per eligible household. Once the application has been received, a check will be directly sent overnight to the family in need.

Anyone with questions on eligibility or how to apply for the grant should contact 1-800-504-4098 or email legion@ohiolegion.com.

Representatives at the American Legion said callers should expect a delay when they call as applications are backed up.
