Governor DeWine orders flags at half-staff for Ohio soldier killed in Afghanistan on Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings and grounds in Fairfield County and at the Ohio Statehouse in honor of the soldier who was killed in Afghanistan on Friday.

29-year-old Spc. Joseph P. Collette of Lancaster, Ohio was one of two soldiers killed in Kunduz Province, Afghanistan on Friday. He sustained fatal injuries on a combat mission, according to News 5 media partners at the Akron Beacon Journal.

Collette was a specialist in the Army’s 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group.

DeWine thanked Collette for his service and his sacrifice, stating that he has made Ohio proud.
