Governor Kasich orders flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen trooper Velez

On Tuesday, Governor John Kasich ordered that both the flag of the United States of America and the State of Ohio should be flown at half-staff in honor of State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez.

Per Kasich's order, both flags will be flown throughout Lorain County on September 21 at half-staff and then throughout the state on September 22 from sunrise to sunset 

Velez 48, was struck and killed September 15 by a vehicle while conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 90 in Cleveland.

In honor of the life and service of State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Lorain County on September 21, 2016 and throughout the state of Ohio on September 22, 2016 from sunrise to sunset.

The visiting hours and funeral arrangements for Velez will be Wednesday and Thursday.
