Number of initial jobless claims filed by Ohioans continues to decrease

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the third straight week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Ohioans filed fewer initial jobless claims.

For the week of July 26 through Aug. 1, Ohioans filed 25,952 initial jobless claims, which is 248,263 fewer than the peak earlier this year. The week prior, July 19 through July 25, Ohioans filed 27,937 initial jobless claims.

A total of 1,583,739 initial jobless claims were filed in Ohio over the last 20 weeks, which is more than the combined total of those filed during the last four years, the department said.

Between July 26 and Aug. 1, Ohioans filed 404, 434 continued jobless claims last week, which is 371,868 fewer than the peak earlier this week.

ODJFS said about 94% of the 1 million unemployment applications have been processed, with about 6% still pending.
