COLUMBUS — Transportation organizations are challenging central Ohio residents to try a way of getting to work other than driving themselves.

Through Sunday, they’re sponsoring the Central Ohio Commuter Challenge, which encourages commuters to vanpool, carpool, ride the bus, walk or bicycle to work.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Central Ohio Transit Authority, Smart Columbus, CoGo Bike Share, Lyft and Enterprise say the contest will help show how alternative transportation forms can benefit health, reduce congestion and improve air quality.

Participating commuters can register and log eligible trips at MakeYourMilesMatter.com .

Organizers say more trips means more chances to win daily and grand prizes, including gift cards and tickets to events. The first 100 people to log a trip will get a pair of movie passes.
