A school resource officer in southwest Ohio says he was ready for a shootout when he heard gunshots from the cafeteria.
Kent Hall tells The Cincinnati Enquirerhe drew his gun and ran down a hallway toward the cafeteria last week at Madison Local Schools after police say 14-year-old James Austin Hancock opened fire, wounding two students and two others.
The retired Butler County Sheriff's deputy says he spotted Hancock sprint through the parking lot and took off after him. He says he jumped in his car and drove to a nearby field, where Hancock was captured. Hancock has denied charges of attempted murder through his attorney.
Hall has been hailed as a leader, but deflected praise Wednesday. He says he's just happy no one died in the incident.
