ODOT hiring highway technicians to work in several Northeast Ohio counties

CLEVELAND — If you have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and are looking for a job, the Ohio Department of Transportation is looking to hire full-time and temporary highway technicians in Ashland, Crawford, Erie, Lorain , Medina, Richland and Wayne counties.

Pay is $18.05 an hour, with employees working 40 hours per week or more depending on snow and ice events.

Minimum requirements:

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition and subtraction, reading, writing
  • Three months of training or three months of experience in the operation of basic equipment
  • Applicants must have a valid Class B CDL
  • Final candidates will be required to submit a pre-employment drug test

A physical ability test (PAT) will be given for the Highway Technician 1 position. Candidates must pass the test to be considered for employment. The test includes demonstrating the ability to lift, pull and drag, and/or maneuver 50-100 pounds.

Applicants selected to take the test will be notified by telephone and email, per the telephone number and email address provided on the application, of the exact time and location to report for the test administration.

ODOT will host virtual hiring events for the positions based on counties.

  • Ashland-Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Crawford-Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Erie-Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Lorain-Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Medina-Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Richland-Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Wayne-Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
