Hike Aboard!
Sunday, June 19, 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Boston Store Visitor Center.
Join a ranger for a one-way train ride followed by a challenging 6 mile hike back to our cars. Trail is unpaved and hilly. $3 per hiker, paid upon boarding. For more information call 800-468-4070 or visit cvsr.com.

Full Moon Hike
Monday, June 20, 9 to 11 p.m., Horseshoe Pond
Join a ranger on a 2.75-mile moonlit hike on the unpaved, rolling Tree Farm Trail. For more information call 330-657-2752.

Young Angler's Fishing Derby: Findley
Saturday, June 18, 10 to noon, Findley State Park

Prairie Drop-In
Saturday, June 18 at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tallgrass Prairie, Brecksville Reservation, Brecksville, OH 44141
Stop by to see what is in bloom. Naturalist Kathy Schmidt will be there to identify plants and share their pioneer and American Indian uses. Terrain Difficulty: flat, 0.5 mile. Phone: 440-526-1012. Free.

Father’s Day Hike
Sunday, June 19, 2 to 3 p.m., Rocky River Reservation, Rocky River Nature Center
Enjoy a family hike around the beautiful West Channel Pond. We’ll search for wildlife like beaver, mink, and water snakes. Terrain: mostly flat, 0.5 mile. Free.

Ashland County Parks

Hurdle Waterfowl Park
This wooded 66-acre park, which is ideal for hiking and bird watching, was originally designed to attract waterfowl. In addition to two miles of hiking trails, there is a 4.5-acre fishing pond, a 12-acre shallow pond complex and a 2.5-acre duck pond. The park also has mature woods and a small buttonbush marsh. An large observation tower that overlooks the park can be opened upon request and for special events.

Crawford County Parks

Daughmer Teasel-Pull
Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m., Daughmer Savannah
Join members of the Ohio Natural Areas & Preserves Association in trying to eradicate an invasive species.  Invasive species out-compete our local flora and fauna and can turn habitats into botanical monocultures.  Wear long pants and bring gloves and a shovel.

Walk With a Doc

Progressive Prairie Prowl
Monday, June 20, 6 to 8 p.m., Frohring Meadows, Katydid Shelter
After several years getting established, Frohring Meadows' prairie is ablaze with color. Watch the progression of flowers on this three-part series over the summer. Long pants and closed-toed shoes recommended.

Solar Day & Solstice Sunset
Monday, June 20, 6 to 9:30 p.m., Observatory Park
Cook s'mores in a solar oven, participate in solar-powered toy car races, test light sensitive beads, view the sun through a special telescope, and (if you stick around) witness the full moon rising at sunset on the longest day of the year! Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Hiking for the Health of It
Saturday, June 18, 9 to 11 a.m., Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Pine Lane Trailhead, 1281 Pine Lane in Peninsula.
This is a hiking club for those adults who can hike four to five miles at a brisk pace. Walking trails can be mildly strenuous with a limited amount being off trail. Please dress for the weather, and be sure to have appropriate footwear. Ages 10 to adult. No registration required. Free.

Home for the Summer: Songs of our Summer Birds

June is a good month for listening to the Neotropical migrant songbirds that spend their summers with us! Males continue to sing during nesting season, and our year-round residents will still be singing as well. Cleveland Institute of Music faculty member Dr. Lisa Rainsong will introduce you to the songs of our summer residents in an indoor presentation followed by an outdoor listening hike as we search for summer and year-round residents on their nesting territories.
