Here you will find a weekly update on select events and activities happening in northern Ohio national, state and county parks, which are in the NewsChannel 5 viewing area. Programs sometimes change for weather and other unforeseen circumstances! Check the park web-site before traveling.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad National Park Scenic Day Pass
Saturday, March 26,
View wildlife and scenery in the comfort of our climate-controlled train cars. Get on and off at any station. Spend a whole day exploring or just a few hours. Spring Training Hike
Saturday, March 26, 9 to 10:30 a.m., Ledges Trailhead
Take a 2.2 mile hike on the unpaved, hilly Ledges Trail. For more information call 330-657-2752.

Sheep Shearing Day
Saturday, March 26, noon to 4 p.m., The Spicy Lamb Farm
Come watch sheep shearing demonstrations and learn about fiber arts. Fee: $10 adults, $5 children. For details and directions, visit thespicylamb.com.

Ohio State Parks

Easter Egg Hunt: East Harbor
Saturday, March 26, 2 p.m., East Harbor State Park
The Friends of East Harbor State Park are sponsoring their 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26th @ 2:00 PM in front of the Camp Store. Bring your kids and grandkids and be part of a fun family-oriented activity. Get a jump on spring and consider camping with us! In the event of inclement weather, the egg-hunt will be held at Lockwood Shelter House.

Marsh Madness Hike: Maumee Bay
Saturday, March 26, 1 p.m., Maumee Bay State Park
Spring is here!! … or is it? Guided hike around the boardwalk from 1 to 2 p.m. Let’s look for signs of spring in the marsh and convince ourselves that warmer weather is around the corner...

Cleveland Metroparks

East Side FrogWatch
Saturday, March 26, 3 to 4:30 p.m., North Chagrin Reservation, Nature Center, 3037 SOM Center Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094
Don’t croak, monitoring frogs is fun! This introductory training will give you the tools to identify frogs in our region. Learn to listen for their calls and help us gauge the health of our park’s amphibian populations through citizen science. Free

Ashland County Parks

The Ashland County Park District (ACPD) is currently composed of 16 parks. Each offers a unique experience and support a variety of recreational activities including hiking, bird-watching, canoeing, dog-walking and hunting.

Crawford County Parks

Lowe-Volk Nature Center
The Lowe-Volk Nature Center opened in Dec. 2002. The building has an eco-friendly design, and contains a passive solar heat and light system, an above ground leach bed and parallam beams. It currently features 25 exhibits on various topics, including live wildlife.

As the "hub" of Park District activities, many school groups utilize the Nature Center and surrounding Lowe-Volk Park for field trips.  There are also public environmental education programs and large events hosted here, such as Arrowhead Day (fourth Saturday in February) and Living History Day (first Saturday in June). Erie County Parks

Vacationland Federal Credit Union Easter Egg Hunt!
Saturday, March 26, 2 to 4 p.m., Osborn MetroPark, 3910 Perkins Ave, Huron.
Join Vacationland Federal Credit Union and Erie MetroParks for one of the most exciting Easter Egg Hunts in the area! There will be over 2,000 eggs, live bunnies, crafts, and prizes! Dollar Dog will be onsite so bring your camera!

Fun Day Monday (Spring Break)

School’s out for Spring Break. Looking for a fun family experience? Stop by the Nature Center anytime between 10 am and 4 pm. Visit the Nature Center for scavenger hunts, seasonal craft, outdoor x-plorer packs, hiking, hands on exhibits, the Wildlife Center, live animals and much more. Naturalists are on-hand to answer all of your nature related questions and to help guide you through the day. Visit the Nature Store; refreshments are available. Free to all; all ages welcome.

Glow-In-The-Dark Egg Hunt
Friday, March 25, 8:30 to 10 p.m., Vermillion River, Carriage Barn.
A night-time egg hunt! Participants will be divided by age. Participants search a large area for eggs, a limited number of eggs per person. Pre-register by 3/23 and pay $1 per person at the door. For more information call (440) 967-7310. Maximum 200. Registration required. Fee: $1.00.

Roving Naturalists: Waterfowl  
Saturday, March 26, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Killbuck Lakes
Join naturalists any time between 10 a.m. and Noon as they set up spotting scopes to view magnificent waterfowl. The naturalists will be stationed along the trail. Once you park your car, follow the signs that will direct you to their location. Please bring binoculars and bird ID books if you have them. Several spotting scopes will be set up for viewing waterfowl at a distance. All ages welcome. No registration required. Free.

Parks and Trails
Portage Parks invites you to experience the beautiful and diverse natural areas of Portage County. Portage Parks manages 1,300 acres and 14 miles of hike and bike trails, connecting communities across Portage County, and with other regional trail systems. Cardio Hike
