RICHFIELD, Ohio — A large crash on Interstate 77 shut down north and southbound lanes while crews and authorities from numerous agencies worked to clear the scene, according to the Richfield Police Department.

North and southbound lanes were closed at Ghent Road near the Summit-Cuyahoga County line due to the crash, but have since reopened.

More than 20 cars were involved in the pile-up crash, police said. Authorities are still working to compile the numbers.

Some injuries were reported but none were life-threatening, police said.

Weather in the area could be seen on the Ohio Department of Transportation's cameras, showing nearly whiteout conditions.

Another large crash involving multiple vehicles also occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 90.

The traffic issues stem from the sudden winter weather in the area. A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Summit and Cuyahoga counties Thursday morning that will last until 9 p.m. with more snow expected for the evening commute.

Motorists are urged to use caution on the roads.
