A Strongsville police officer shot and killed a suspect involved in a police chase on Interstate 71 early Tuesday.

The highway is back open in the area of Route 3. It was closed for several hours due to police activity.

The chase started after Strongsville police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Pearl Road around 2:30 a.m. The driver failed to stop and continued to speed, police said.

The pursuit ended at I-271 and I-71. A Strongsville officer fired his weapon at least one time, killing the driver. At some point, there was a collision between a cruiser and the passenger van.

Also inside the passenger van was a woman and three children who were not physically injured.

In a police report released Wednesday, the driver was identified as Roy Evans. His passenger was identified as Amanda Pauley.

Several other agencies responded to the scene including Medina Township police, Brunswick police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

BCI said it was waiting for a search warrant to process the van, they expect to be finished with that part of the investigation on Wednesday.

The highway reopened just before 8 a.m.

The Medina County Coroner's Office also briefly responded to the scene. BCI is currently investigating the incident.
