CLEVELAND — Icy road conditions caused delays for the morning commute Monday.
News 5 photojournalist Mike Vielhaber, who has been tracking overnight news and weather for more than a decade, said he’s never seen road conditions as bad as he did overnight.
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced the ramp from I-271 north to I-480 west has reopened after it was previously closed due to a crash.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
In Akron, I-77 northbound between White Pound Drive and Ridgewood-Miller roads was closed due to a crash.
Just after 5 a.m., responding officers requested additional backup and resources to close down a portion of the highway.
One vehicle lost control and struck the guardrail and another vehicle struck the center median. Police said at least two motorists, a man and a woman, were later taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Their injuries are not considered not life-threatening.
Five vehicles were involved in a crash on I-71 northbound that closed the highway for hours.
AirTracker 5 was at the scene where there were two jackknifed commercial trucks next to a patrol cruiser.
No injuries were reported and I-71 northbound has since reopened.
ODOT Cleveland said over 30 trucks are out treating the roads.

A couple of reminders 1) Slow Down 2) Give plow trucks plenty of room to work 3) Give yourself extra time to reach your destination 4)Check OHGO for road condition updates! ❄️ #ODOTwinter pic.twitter.com/XJb0OHTjep
