SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Lake and Ashtabula counties saw a couple of rounds of storms that produced heavy rain and frequent lightning Saturday during a two-hour period from 8 to 10 a.m., causing damage in some areas.

In Saybrook Township, there was a brief wind gust that took down several trees. The likely cause of the damage was from a down burst of wind that happens when storms weaken quickly.

Viewer Hunter Wade Zornes sent News 5 several photos of his damaged yard.

Zornes said he was asleep, but the sound of thunder woke him up. He looked outside and watched as high winds knocked down two large hickory trees on his property. Thankfully, Zornes said no one was injured.

Wind gusts reached more than 60 mph in that area.

Most of Saturday will be dry but with a passing cold front another round of storms will be likely late this afternoon and into this evening. Click here for the full News 5 Forecast.
