An AMBER Alert has been issued for a child who was 'taken by force' by his non-custodial father in Akron.

The incident took place at an apartment on Callis Oval just before 4:30 a.m.

The child's name is Darius R Heard Jr. He is 1 years old and was last seen wearing a red, white and blue Nautica Polo shirt and a diaper.

The suspect's name is Darius Rashaad Heard. The suspect is 27 years old. He is about 6-foot, 1-inch tall and weighs 195 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black Nike jacket and grey shorts.

According to Captain Daniel Zampelli, of the Akron Police Department, the suspect kicked in the door of the house where Darius Heard Jr. was staying.

He hit the child's mother and then took the child with him, according to police.

Heard will face aggravated burglary, kidnapping and domestic violence charges.

Police are looking at nearby apartment complexes.

The vehicle involved is a silver Chevy Sonic. The car is believed to be a later model and possibly has Texas license plates. There is an Enterprise rental sticker on front windshield on the drivers side.
