Gov. Mike DeWine announced that fairs in Ohio will be limited in the wake of continued COVID-19 cases across the state. The ban on large fairs goes into effect July 31.
"We have great fairs in the state of Ohio -- independent fairs, county fairs. And our goal this summer was, in spite of the COVID-19, to try to hold these fairs," DeWine said.
DeWine said that only junior fairs will be allowed, with events such as livestock, photography, sewing, etc. Rides, grandstand events and games will not be allowed.
A curfew will also be implemented at fairgrounds, and masks will be required.
DeWine said the decision came after 19 people tested positive for the virus after attending an Ohio fair.
"What we do at our county fairs and, what we do all summer, and everything we do, is really going to determine what happens as we move forward. It’s going to determine what our fall is like," DeWine said.
