Northeast Ohio nonprofit raffling off 1960 Mercury Comet, other classic items for COVID-19 relief

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A Northeast Ohio nonprofit raising money for COVID-19 prevention and response is holding a raffle and the prizes are absolutely classic.

The charity “because I said I would,” located in Rocky River, received a generous donation of a 1960 Mercury Comet to be raffled off, along with several other classic items.

Among the other prizes that come with the car are a signed Magic Johnson jersey, a Kobe Bryant rookie card, an autographed print with NFL greats Jim Brown, Ray Nitschke and Chuck Noll, Elvis Presley records and figurines and a rare comic book collection.

There is also a cash prize of $4,000 that goes to the winner of the raffle, with all of the aforementioned items.

"because I said I would" has been working to fight COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, running a volunteer face mask sewing operation with 270 volunteers making more than 14,000 face masks. The organization has also provided more than 500 meals to healthcare workers on the frontlines and has created a program to help families who have lost a loved one to COVID-19.

So far, the raffle has raised more than $5,700.

Tickets for the raffle can be purchased until Sept. 24 at 7 a.m.
