The Ohio Department of Health reported 817 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the state’s total to 49,455. The new daily cases continue to surpass the 21-day average, which has risen to 540.
Stark County topped the 1,000-case mark Saturday.
The number of daily cases in Cuyahoga County remained high, with 142 new cases reported Saturday, dipping from Friday’s daily total of 176, which set the record for the highest number of new cases reported in a day since the beginning of the outbreak.
On June 25, the most recent date for which data is available, the positive rate was 5%, meaning increased testing only partially accounts for the recent rise in news cases.
COVID-19-related deaths remain lower than the 21-day average of 21, with 16 new deaths reported by the state.
Hospitalizations and ICU admissions in Ohio are right around the 21-day average, with 54 new hospitalizations and 12 new ICU admissions in the state. The 21-day average for hospital admission sits at 55 while the 21-day average of ICU admissions is 13. Some 15% of all COVID-19 cases in Ohio have required hospitalization and 4% have been admitted into an ICU.
Of the total reported COVID-19 cases to date in Ohio, 14% are healthcare workers, 49% are female and 50% are male.
