COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported a record 8,808 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 335,423, but that number could change since the data is incomplete, according to health officials. Thousands of reports are still pending review, according to the state's website.

On Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine said there were more than 12,000 cases that still needed to be processed. The ODH didn't say what the current number is that remain outstanding as of 2:30 p.m. We have reached out to the state health department to see if any of today's record number are part of that backlog.

DeWine said on Thursday that the state's ability to tabulate positive cases has been overwhelmed by the surge.

The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 5,840. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 318,151 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 94% of total cases.

There were 750 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.

There have now been 5,955 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 65 new deaths were reported today, which is more than double the 21-day average.

The ODH reported 398 new hospitalizations today, with 42 ICU admissions.

As of today, 220,281 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

There were 63,989 tests done on Wednesday, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 12.8% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13.1%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
