EATON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A driver was hospitalized after a car hit a pole early Thursday morning in Eaton Township, according to the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers confirmed the crash happened at 2:15 a.m. at Route 82 and Route 57.
Troopers said the driver was traveling westbound on State Route 82, when the SUV traveled off the right side of the roadway into the grassy area, and struck a metal utility pole.
Troopers said the driver was entrapped in the vehicle and firefighters from the Eaton Township Fire Department extricated the driver, identified as a 22-year-old woman from Elyria, out of the vehicle.
The 22-year-old driver was transported to St. Johns Westshore Hospital with serious injuries.
An initial investigation revealed the driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash.
