PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two men are facing felony charges for a series of thefts that span four Northeast Ohio counties.

The suspects, Michael McDaniels, of Columbus, Ohio, and Kendarius Manning, of Pampano, Florida, were arrested on Wednesday after leading police on a chase following a theft incident at a gym and grocery store in Painesville Township.

Both men are charged with three counts of receiving stolen property, all fifth-degree felonies, Painesville Municipal Court records state.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies first responded to a gym in the 1500 block of Mentor Avenue after a woman reported her car had been broken into and her purse stolen. While on scene, deputies learned that her credit card had just been used at a grocery store about a mile down the road.

The sheriff’s office said deputies went to the grocery store and observed a man “exiting the store acting extremely nervous, looking behind him at the deputy continuously.”

Authorities said that when deputies tried to question the man, he ran off and jumped into a Dodge Charger that drove off. Deputies chased the vehicle onto State Route 44 where the vehicle finally stopped, and the two occupants jumped out and tried to run off, only to be apprehended after a short foot chase.

LCSO said deputies searched the vehicle and found numerous credit cards and driver’s licenses that had been stolen from Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga and Portage counties. Authorities also recovered the wallet and purse from the woman at the gym. Additionally, a number of gift cards were also found.

Both men were then transported to the Lake County Jail where they are currently being held, authorities said. An investigation into the matter is being conducted with multiple law enforcement agencies.

The men are both scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 9, according to records.

“We would like to recognize the deputies for the quick response and apprehension of these suspects who are suspected of committing many other similar crimes in the Northeast Ohio area. Due to their diligence, many cases will be solved, and additional charges will be forthcoming,” LCSO said.
