An Akron man has pleaded guilty in connection with the stabbing death of his 78-year-old mother last year, according to the Summit County Prosecutor's Office. Michael Gleisinger, 49, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and failure to provide for a functionally-impaired person.

According to the prosecutor's office, Gleisinger was the caregiver for his mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. On May 16, 2017, Gleisinger was charged after police responded to his residence and found his mother with stab wounds to the chest. She was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

Authorities said Gleisinger has mental health issues and recently spent time in the Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare System.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 26 for sentencing.
