CANTON, Ohio — The public is invited to attend the deployment of Ohio Army National Guard’s aviation unit on Thursday at the MAPS Air Museum in North Canton.

About 30 soldiers from the Ohio Army National Guard’s Detachment 2, Company C, 3rd Battalion, 238th Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion) will deploy this month in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

In August, nearly 600 soldiers of the Ohio National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 145th Armored Regiment, were deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

Col. Daniel Shank, Ohio assistant adjutant general for the Army, will send off the unit during a call to duty ceremony at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the MAPS Air Museum, 2260 International Parkway, in North Canton.

Company C is a medevac support unit that will deploy to the U.S. Central Command region located in Southwest Asia.

The detachment was organized in the Ohio Army National Guard in 2016, and this is its first deployment, the release states.
