Authorities responding to University Hts. fire find woman who had been tortured, suspect on the run

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — A woman covered in cuts and stab wounds was found by firefighters responding to an alarm at a University Heights apartment Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, firefighters and police responded around 1:11 p.m. to the 2100 block of Kerwin Road for an alarm.

When crews went into the apartment, they found an unresponsive 23-year-old woman with wounds all over her body.

Police said that their investigation indicates the woman had been tortured for "an extended period throughout the day."

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital. Police said that the woman is in stable condition.

Authorities said that a 37-year-old woman is suspected of assaulting the victim and then attempting to set the apartment on fire.

According to police, the 37-year-old woman is facing charges of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated arson and tampering with evidence.

Authorities said that the suspect, who has not been named, is still currently on the loose.
