CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Animal Protective League is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information regarding a cat whose ears were nearly cut off with scissors.

The cat, now named Sargent, is recovering from surgery after a rescue found him near West 105th Street and Western Avenue with his ears dangling, mutilated by scissors.

Sargent was picked up by the rescue with both of his ears dangling and almost entirely cut off. The organization said it appears that someone used scissors to try and crop the cat’s ears.

He was transported to the organization's medical adviser, placed on pain medication and an antibiotic, and underwent surgery on his ears at Able Animal Hospital.

Forever Friends Foundation said that the cat needed to have at least one of his ears amputated, if not both.

Able Animal Hospital said the cat underwent surgery and is doing well.

The organization is collecting donations for the cat by phone 216-749-6990.

The Cleveland Animal Protective League was informed of the incident and is investigating.

Anyone with information should call the APL at 216-377-1630.
