CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy that happened earlier this week.

The teen has been identified as Leeneal Smith, according to police.

The shooting happened Monday evening in the 9400 block of Cardwell Avenue in Cleveland’s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood, authorities said.

Fourth District officers responded to the location after receiving a report of a man shot. When they arrived, officers found Smith in the middle of the street. Police gave the teen first aid until EMS arrived and transported him to MetroHealth Medical Center, authorities said.

Witnesses told officers at the scene that a gunshot was heard and then two men removed the teen from an unidentified white vehicle, according to police.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call Cleveland police detectives at 216-623-5464 or CrimeStoppers at 216-25-CRIME.
