CMHAPD officer shoots man charging at police while wielding knife in each hand

CLEVELAND — A 43-year-old man was injured Tuesday afternoon when he was shot by Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police after they responded to a call regarding a man in mental distress and harming himself with a knife.

According to Cleveland police, the shooting happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 6000 block of Woodland Avenue.

CMHAPD officers located the man inside an apartment and tried to talk to him. The man then charged the officers while holding a knife in each hand. One of the officers shot the man. He was struck in the abdomen and wrist, Cleveland police said.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Members of the Cleveland police department are investigating the shooting.
