CLEVELAND — The new Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse prepares to host its first event Monday night with The Black Keys taking the stage at 7 p.m. One of the many changes to the arena that event-goers will immediately notice is the new numbering on sections and seats.
There are so many things new about the transformed Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, most are immediately noticeable, some though are more subtle. Such is the case when you look at your ticket to the first event you attend at the arena as all sections have been renumbered to count clockwise to align with industry standards, all seats have been renumbered within each row to correspond with the clockwise section numbering and the rows have been renumbered to separate the baseline lower bowl seating sections.
In addition they've added a new word to your arena vocabulary: "portal."
"The portals were merely a way to think about how can you get to your seated section the quickest way," said Patrick Scanlon, Sr. Director of Guest Experience & Guest Services at the FieldHouse.
So say your ticket is in Section 222 but you might have the option of going through the "Sections 221-222" entryway or "Sections 222-223." Now each ticket will come with the Portal number or entryway that's closest to your seat.
"We didn't want someone walking in through one entrance and then having to traverse across people," said V.P. of Ticket Operations Ron Velazquez.
Another change has been the renaming of all of the arena levels to better correspond with their location. So the main concourse level used to be Level 3, now it's just simply "Street Level," which is also printed on your ticket.
In addition, new wayfinding signage has been added around the FieldHouse with a pair of 55" HDTVs situated outside of each portal in the concourse to show the game and enhance the wayfinding experience.
