An investigation is underway after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in Cleveland Saturday night.

Cleveland Metropolitan School District confirmed to News 5 that the teen was Bernard Adkins Jr., a district student.

Around 8:47 p.m., Cleveland Police officers responded to the 3400 block of E. 146th Street for a report of a shooting, police said.

Upon arrival, they located Adkins Jr., and officers immediately rendered first aid, police said.

Cleveland EMS said they responded to the scene and pronounced the teen dead.

CMSD Communications Officer Jon Benedict sent the following statement to News 5:

"I can confirm that Bernard Adkins, Jr., was a CMSD student, enrolled this year at John Adams College & Career Academy. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends on their loss, and we have assigned additional counselors to the school for support in this difficult time."

The shooting is still under investigation, and no further details are available.
