BROOK PARK, Ohio — A 35-year-old Cleveland man died Saturday morning after crashing his vehicle on Interstate 71 in Brook Park.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes by mile marker 238 near the Interstate 480 exchange.

The man has been identified as Ronald W. Metheney. Jr., according to OSHP.

Troopers said that Metheny was in a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer heading north on I-71 when he struck a guardrail after failing to negotiate a curve. The impact caused the Blazer to flip over and slide down an embankment.

Metheney was pronounced dead at the scene by Cleveland EMS, troopers said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is thought to have contributed to the crash, but the incident still remains under investigation.
