Shaker Heights Police Officer Chad Hagan had a close call after he pulled over a car early Saturday morning for a traffic stop and was nearly struck by a passing vehicle.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. near Lee Road and Aldersyde Drive in Shaker Heights. Hagan was in his cruiser writing a citation. As he opened the door he had one foot on the street and noticed a car coming straight at him.

“I jumped back in the vehicle and pulled the door shut as much as I could. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t hit by the vehicle,” Hagan said.

Shaker Heights police said the driver of the car that hit Hagan’s patrol vehicle did not stop. A short time later the man was found and arrested. D. Mario Little, 26, was arrested on OVI and weapons charges.

"I’m blessed, someone was looking out for me,” Hagan said. Hagan has a bruised ankle and leg but is otherwise OK.

The officer has a warning for drivers. “If you see an officer on the side of the road conducting a traffic stop, slow down,” Hagan said.
