The Cleveland Clinic is ranked the No. 2 hospital in America by U.S. News and World Report for the third year in a row.

The hospital ranked  No. 1 in cardiology and heart surgery and No. 2 in gastroenterology and GI surgery, according to the list.

The clinic was ranked in the following 14 adults specialties:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology and heart surgery
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Geriatrics
  • Ear, nose and throat
  • Gynecology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery

  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology
  • Urology

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota beat out Cleveland Clinic for the No. 1 spot. After the Cleveland Clinic came John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

The scores on the rankings are based on patient outcomes and care-related factors such as patient safety and nurse staffing. 

In Ohio, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center ranked No. 2 as the overall best hospital in the state.
