EUCLID, Ohio — A career criminal was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to charges in connection with the savage rape of a woman in March of 2018 that left her on the brink of death.

Archie Leak, 53, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on six counts of rape, gross sexual imposition, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, two counts of kidnapping, petty theft and tampering with evidence, according to court records.

The victim told News 5 in an exclusive interview last May that she was repeatedly raped, severely beaten and left for dead by Leak.

The woman was sleeping in her Euclid apartment in the early morning hours of March 29 when Leak shattered her kitchen window and entered her home. Over the next five hours, police believe Leak raped and beat the woman over and over again, stopping only to rifle through her fridge for leftovers.

Before Leak left, he stole her rent money, and cut three tufts of hair from the woman’s head — seemingly as a souvenir, the victim told News 5.

Leak was arrested by Euclid detectives a few days later, but his acts of violence have left the victim scarred.

“To me, I think he took away my whole life. My whole way of life is different now,” the victim said. “I don’t like to go out in crowds. I’m scared of every little noise. I’m scared to be by myself.”
