PARMA, Ohio — A serial shoplifter sparked a police pursuit in Parma Saturday evening, according to Parma police.

On Thursday, a woman was caught on camera shoplifting from Dillard’s at Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted. Her getaway driver struck a North Olmsted officer and fled the scene in a gray Kia Sportage. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries.

The man who drove the getaway car was seen shoplifting at Kohl’s in Parma Saturday evening, according to police.

Officers spotted the Kia on West 130th Street and initiated a pursuit.

Police followed the vehicle into Cleveland but when the driver became reckless, officers called off the pursuit to avoid putting the public in danger.

The pursuit lasted around seven minutes, according to police.
