Erie County Sheriff's Office deputy injured in crash in Berlin Township

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A deputy from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office was hurt in a crash Friday night after a car exiting a driveway pulled out into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened around 7:50 p.m. on State Route 61 near mile marker two in Berlin Township.

The deputy was heading west on State Route 61 in a 2017 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor when a man in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado failed to yield while exiting a driveway. Authorities say that when the man attempted to turn onto the road, he pulled out into the path of the cruiser.

The deputy was sustained non-incapacitating injuries from the crash. The deputy’s K-9 partner was taken for a medical evaluation., authorities said.

The driver of the Silverado and two other occupants were not injured in the crash.

The matter remains under investigation.
